Verisign Report: Market growth of registering domain names in the first quarter of 2008
According to a press release issued June 16, 2008 by Verisign, the register .com / .net / .tv, increased registrations of domain names in the first quarter of 2008 amounted to 6% from the previous quarter. The trend is stable compared to the average reported quarterly growth for 2007.
This growth in deposits of domain names is 26% over the year rolling, ie over the first quarter of 2007.
Verisign could count 162 million domain names registered in March 31, 2008, gTLDs and ccTLDs confused. To recall, there were around 70 million domain names in late 2004. It is therefore almost 100 million units that were added in a little over 3 years.
DNS queries are also increasing sharply, according to Verisign. Indeed, it is not less than 50 billion daily queries that have been recorded in the first quarter 2008, against an average of 30 in the same quarter last year.
Locally, Verisign stresses the growing importance of India in the Internet landscape. With over 41 million Internet users, the country is the eighth internet population highest in the world. Meanwhile, India displays a penetration rate of 4%. Its growth potential is exceptional, including in the area of registration of domain names. For example, Verisign has been noticed an increase in registrations in India by 46% year on slippery and 12% over fourth quarter 2007.
These findings come from traditional quarterly report on industry Verisign domain names (Domain Name Industry Brief). All of these reports is available at: http://www.verisign.com/domainbrief.

Hi Remy
Other stat - very - interesting, is that about 84 million names analyzed. COM and. NET Verisign calculates:
67% of sites are multiple pages
22% have a page, or 18.5 million parking spaces, presumably ...
11% have no page / website
So if we consider the 162 million sites all extensions together, it can be argued that there would be at least 20 million names in car without much risk of being wrong ...
Are you agree or do you think the actual numbers of car are more subtle?

Hi Jean-Marie
It is probably beyond 20 million parked domain.
According to stats and webhosting.info Part parked domain with DNS, we had approximately the following numbers in May:
- Sedo.com: 2,000,000
- DomainSponsor: 2,000,000
- Fabulous: 1,500,000
- Hitfarm: 1,000,000
- Parked: 900,000
- BuyDomains: 800,000
- NameDrive: 500,000
- TrafficZ: 400,000
It is almost 10 million has nothing on these sources ...
... Or:
- I have not counted some 10 players in the "minors" at least 400,000 units
- It is that parked domains by DNS. Half of the areas being herded around by URL, add double.
- Need to add pages registrar-car ... still easily 3-4 million
- I think the "car lover pages" is easy to figure 5 million
We turn therefore more likely around 40 million as of 20 imo.
