We at Virtual Network decided to start an auction for our domain 55.com after receiving a 200,000 EUR offer through Sedo (ca. 287,000 USD).

This was not an easy decision to make because we deeply believe that this gem is worth more and are aware that there is a risk that the name actually sells for 200k€. But we think the possible outcome is worth the risk. As domain investors, we are dealing with risk management on a daily basis. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose but bigger risks usually have bigger rewards, isn’t it?

We also thought the beginning of the year was a good timing to shake up the market with a 6 figure auction/sale.

55.com is not only one of our best NN.com, it probably counts among our most valuable online properties because it is universal. I often write about the language factor when it comes to domain valuation. Although we specialized on French domains over the time because French is our mother tongue and so the language we have the best feeling for, we always aim to bring the best possible linguistic diversity in our domain portfolio. In this sense, numeric domains are probably among the best investments you can make. Numbers are universal, you need  them and use them everywhere and everytime. Numbers are one of the first things children learn at school.

The number 5 has various symbolic applications across the globe, as you can read from Wikipedia. Because 5.com has been locked for registration by Verisign, 55.com is probably the best choice by nature for someone wishing to capitalize on the number 5.

I will stop the introductions here and let the domain finish the job. I guess it doesn’t need me much to find its way to success.
